Abstract
The project looks at conflicts related to use of the Norwegian outfields. The aim of the project is to investigate how we can create and maintain thrust and social sustainability between local societies and regional and national government. Thus far the project has started exploring local responses to the 2017 carnage of the wild reindeer in the Nordfjella region, the possible making of a new outfield law in Nordland county, focusing on conflicts of interest between various users. The project has also started an exploration of the concept of ground rent in order to look at how outfield resources have been valued historically (with special focus on the Norwegian waterfalls), and how management of the ground rent created social sustainability between national government and local societies.
