Abstract
The aim of the project is to explore historical and genetic data, which are suited to shed a light on those periods of population history of Central and Eastern Europe that cannot be studied by other methods. The molecular genetic research gives an opportunity to examine the genetic connection on the one hand between the local inhabitants and the immigrants of a given region, on the other hand between different cultures. We are planning to study how long the line of origin of the samples can be traced back and in what manner those samples fit to the present historical and archaeological theories. In the course of our work, we would carry out genetic investigation of remains of archaeologically defined bones, similarly as we have successfully performed it during our former NKFP project. These examinations are unique in Europe, since other comparative studies were built on samples collected from present-day population. Therefore, one of our aims is to lay the foundation of a historical-genetic database, in order to serve comparative data to later genetic researches.
