Abstract
Basic and applied research are connected with technology development in this project with the aim of developing environmentally friendly integrated plant protection methods and introducing them into everyday agricultural practice. As a result, the quality of agri-environment and biodiversity improves, there will be a significant increase in the quantity of safe, healthy, marketable agricultural products, a widening of the farmers’ professional and environmental knowledge and an improvement in the region’s occupational and financial position leading to a better quality of life in rural areas. The research fields covered in this project are strictly focused to the most important current plant protection problems of Hungary. Thus, top priority is given to pests that have recently appeared in our region and cause extensive problems, not only in agricultural fields but also in urban areas and national parks. Special emphasis is given to research and development of new pest-forecasting and monitoring techniques and throughout the project environmentally friendly plant protection methods are favoured, such as resistance breeding.
