Abstract
"Hunting the humpback salmon" is an innovation project revolving around modernisation of Norwegian river management systems through development of new technology, and preserving local eco-systems and habitats. Northern Norway has for the past 4 years seen an increasing invation of humpback salmon, which threatens native salmon populations and other species along the coast. Nationally, we lack the technology and the knowledge to prevent humpback salmon from permanently manifesting itself in Norwegian rivers. Additionally, there is a general lack of research data regaring the humpback salmon and how it impacts the local eco-systems and environments. This project is the first step in a long term development program to develop both technology and methods that enables more effective and modern management of rivers, managment of local eco-systems, and position Norway as the leading actor of innovative river management methods and systems. The impact of the project has both a national and international perspective. At present, river managers uses methods and techology developed during the 60s and the 70s, and hence there exists an enormous potential for both development of new and relevant technology, and development of new and modern standards and procedures.
