Abstract
Soil fauna is essential for the functioning of ecosystems. Therefore, to know if climate change affects soil fauna is of utmost importance, especially the impact of periods of climate extremes. This research focuses on soil fauna response to these extreme climatic events, using springtails as model organisms. Moreover, the role of ecosystem engineers, i.e. burrowing earthworms that affect the habitat of soil fauna, on springtail response to climate extremes will be assessed. Hereby we aim to increase our understanding of soil fauna functioning under climate change to improve climatic models.
