Abstract
Bacterial symbionts can be of great importance in the survival of asexual amoeboid organisms. Among amoebae, the role of prokaryotic symbionts has been investigated in some cytological research objects and human pathogenic protozoans, however, it has been neglected in other freeliving species. Thus, I would like to involve testate amoebae for the first time into the investigation of the protist-symbiont relationship. During a four-year period I intend to examine intraspecific polymorphism in the clonal cultures of different testate amoeba species complemented with the manifestation and identification of their symbiotic bacteria. The demonstration of the participation of prokaryotic symbionts in the generation and maintenance of the polymorphism in different amoebal clones may achieve a further progress in the research of the clonal eukaryotic organisms.
