Abstract
Enchytraeids (Oligochaeta, Annelida) are one of the most important soil mezofauna group due to their high abundance and saprophagous feeding habits. The aim of the proposed research project is the large-scale and detailed investigation of enchytraeids in Hungary and later in the Carpathian Basin, the elucidation and comparative analysis of taxonomical, ecological and genetical problems. The faunistical and taxonomical investigation of enchytraeids including communities from many different habitats in the Bükk, Mátra, Zemplén, Börzsöny Mountains was carried out from 2001 to 2004, which will continue in the Transdanubian (Bakony, Gerecse), Mecsek and Villányi Mountains in 2005-2008.
