Abstract
Main purpose of the program is the justification and/or conformation of the relationship between the families Lamiaceae and Verbenaceae with new data, on various taxon levels. To achieve this end selected species of Lamiaceae and Verbenacea, like the species of genera Salvia, Stachys, Balota and Vitex are to be tested for chemical constituents, characteristic of Fam. Lamiaceae. Their absence, presence and distribution will be studied on species, genera level. Living plant collection in an experimental field and natural populations will serve for studying the variation of the main chemical constituents of some species during the vegetation period (time-dependent variation). Some species, native in Hungary (e.g. Ballota nigra) will be gathered from different localities to get information on their chemical diversity (spacedependent variation). The isolation and structure elucidation of some new compounds (potential chemical markers) can also be expected, beside the new methods elaborated for standard evaluation of plants. Essential oils, representatives of iridoids, diterpenes, triterpenes, phenolic compounds will be assayed by using modern techniques (GC, MS/MS, HPLC, TLC/densitoimetry etc.). The data, obtained could well be used in the future too, if the plants in question were practical importance in Hungary.
