Abstract
No specimen of the overwhelming majority of the supposedly extant but unknown species of the tropical insects has been collected yet. This statement is valid also for the dipterous fauna of the Oriental zoogeographical region. As a consequence, the species of the individual dipterous families are inadequately or rather unevenly known. The aim of this project is to reduce all these deficiencies to some extent by descriptions of new genera and species. Our activity during a collection trip for increase of extant collections is aimed at capturing as many specimens at as many sites as possible (10000 individuals/day if success-ful), on one side, and selecting specimens important for the collections under a stereo-microscope, on the other. We are to apply the simple and effective method of selecting individuals in the field, which we elaborated in the last decade, by which obtaining specimens of rare species is strongly increased. There are no pecularities in the morphological and taxonomic descriptions of Oriental dipterous species. However, I would like to make publications, whose quality would make later re-examinations of the type specimens unnecessary. In the course of the project specimens from our own collection trips as weIl as from other materials preserved in the HNHM will be identified. The papers will include representatives of several dipterous families new for the fauna of Taiwan.
