Abstract
This project’s main aim is studying diatom habitats not subject of current biomonitoring activity. During the 3 years period the diatoms living in algal mats (consists of mainly Cladophora, besides Enteromorpha and Hydrodiction) will be studied and compared with epilithic diatoms. The samples are collected in the side-arm system of the river Danube at the Szigetköz section. Diatoms living in bogs and fens such as Nyíres-mire, Bábtava (Bereg), Mohos mires (Aggtelek Natural Park), Nyírjes-mire (Bükk Natural Park), Fekete-mire, Ördög-mire (Orség), Alsóerdõ mire (Kõszeg) will also be studied. We intend to estimate the relative abundance of briophytic diatoms in fens and bogs. Some floristic survey is also planned on non-karstic regions of Hungary. Among the population of the common duckweed (Lemnaceae) characteristic diatom taxa occur. .
