Abstract
In the last decades there were significant changes in the biodiversity of River Danube regarding both the different taxonomical groups and communities including the macroinvertebrates of the littoral zone and the benthos involving the decrease of the number of species and density. This decrease was the greatest in the litrorheophilous taxa, eg. Ephemeroptera, Simuliidae, Gammaridae. The degree of knowledge of the macroinvertebrate fauna is very different both in the main arm of the Danube and in the adjacent wetland areas. Majority of available records are several decades old, and there are taxonomic groups with only a few or no records (e.g. Coleoptera, Heteroptera). Principal aim of the study to cease these shortcomings and to make up to date inventory of the macroinvertebrate biodiversity.
