Abstract
Molecular studies based on izozyme and DNA markers on Pinus cembra populations occurring in the Central-European /mainly Carpathians/ area. This relict species occurs in the Alps, and the Pinus cembra subsp. sibirica in Asia. The studies are in close connection with earlier studies made by European research centres and included population of the Alps and Asia. The aim of the study is evaluation of genetic diversity of the Central European populations, study of genetic patterns along the studied populations, gene centres. Conclusions referring to area-geographical and landscape history of this relict species.
