Abstract
In my researches I am looking for the answer to the question as to what kind of ecosystem-changes conditioned the changes of the vertebrate fauna of the late neogene-quarternary in the Carpathian Basin. The plans include the re-evaluation of some previously examined faunas as well as the study of new localities. The examination of fossil vertebrate assemblages is done according to the following methods: from an ecological point of view it is essential to determine the insectivore faunas and the index-taxa, the taphonomical examination of the remains, to clarify the dental-morphological changes in relation to paleo-ecology, to examine with oxygen-isotope the dental enamel of herbivores in order to determine the aridity, to give a microscopic examination of the patterns of dental erodation in order to discover eating habits, to give a morphometric analysis of the locomotion system in order to clarify the connection between the habitat and the way of displacement, as well as to make a comparison of complex faunas with the structure of present ecosystems. The new methods to be applied will hopefully make it possible to reconstruct some land-ecosystems of the past 15 million years, as well as to give a better understanding of the connection between the climatic changes and the changes of the fauna.
