Abstract
This proposal aims to investigate the influence that life history and ecological traits have on the structuring of genetic variation for a range of ecologically and economically important forest tree species from across the Neo-tropics. On this basis specific case studies will be considered to examine the impact that four human-mediated land-use changes (i.e. logging, fragmentation, regeneration and domestication) have on the structure and dynamics of genetic diversity within mature and regenerating cohorts. Collected data will be used as input into a specific and novel computer model to identify and produce management strategies that are likely to maximise genetic resources for the species and pressures considered.
