Abstract
This project proposes a reintegration of a long-term US-based multidisciplinary scientific programme of the Applicant into the goals and activities of the European Institution in the country of nationality of the Applicant. The Applicant, who has graduated from the Host Institution 15 years ago and has subsequently gained expertise in neurobiology and neuroethology in the third country, is now proposing to incorporate his expertise into the Host's ecological research related to causes of behavioural and morphological biodiversity. This proposal marks a paradigmatic innovation and an origin of a new discipline of neuro-ecology, with broad multidisciplinary research approach. The research program of the Applicant, uniquely combines neurobiology, ethology, evolution, ecology, paleobiology and modelling to investigate the role of simple neural circuits in shaping evolutionary trends and biodiversity among extant avians and their ancient dinosaurian predators.
