Abstract
Summary Objectives: to extend the network of SmartBuoys to a further 2 sites in UK coastal waters, by adding biogeochemical sensors to an Irish Meteorological Buoy in the Celtic Sea and carry out research related to improving our understanding of the current environmental status of our coastal waters and methods for improving detection of its status. Key Customer Purpose: The work directly supports Defra's ongoing need for an improved evidence base for assessment of eutrophication required to meet a range of current policy drivers including; OSPAR, the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive and the Nitrates Directive. The work is also relevant to Charting Progress 2.
