Abstract
The project will deliver the first comprehensive estimates of common dolphin abundance in offshore European Atlantic waters. Abundance will also be estimated for other delphinid species found primarily offshore, such as Atlantic white-sided dolphin and striped-dolphin. These abundance estimates together with those from (SCANS II) will enable the first assessment of the impact of common dolphin and other small cetacean bycatch in European Atlantic waters and also allow the impact of seismic and sonar activities on cetacean species offshore to be addressed.
