Abstract
Key Customer Purpose: To define the role of biological effects for management purposes ensuring the science is fit for purpose and for policy. The project will also support the biological effects component of the UK marine monitoring programme, undertaken by Defra to meet UK obligations under the Oslo and Paris Commission (OSPAR). Summary Objective: A systematic evaluation of Defra/EA/NE/NERC funded research on biological effects tools, and a clear guide to their application in a management context for the European Marine Strategy and ongoing development and validation of tools to assess the field effects of contaminant mixtures. The project will also develop and apply the techniques prescribed by the biological effects component of OSPAR in order to produce data compliant with Analytical quality control (AQC) and in addition the project will help to influence and guide the uptake of biological effects methodology internationally via OSPAR.
