Abstract
Rose-ringed parakeets are thought to have negative impacts on native hole-nesting bird species. This project would assess the likely impact of rose-ringed parakeets on populations of native woodland birds in the UK, either through direct interaction or through competition for nest sites and resources. The results would be used by the Non-Native Species Secretariat to assess the need for control of this potentially invasive species, in the context of the emerging policy framework for tackling invasive non-native species (as set out in the draft GB Invasive Non-native Species Framework Strategy) and to put the issue into perspective relative to other GB non-native species pressures.
