Abstract
In project IF0144 the fertiliser recommendations for field vegetable crops were revised. Further work will be required to finalise these after comments by the peer review panel. As part of the ongoing process of development, a technical document will be released describing the basis for the revised N recommendations, including a validation against data from a recent LINK project. EU-Rotate_N was recently developed with EU and Defra funding but it is currently not available in a particularly user friendly form. Development of a web based front end will encourage its wider use and the development of further international links. It will immediately impact on a related Defra project investigating N cycling in organic systems. Within this project, steps will be taken to assess its suitability to provide fertiliser recommendations for field vegetable crops grown in situations not easily represented in the new fertiliser manual. Further work will be carried out to establish international links with research groups in other countries that might be able to provide data for future revisions of the fertiliser manual (RB209). Work would be carried out as part of the project to demonstrate the effectiveness of EU-Rotate_N as a management tool to plan more environmentally friendly crop rotations whilst maintaining economic sustainability.
