Abstract
Summary Objectives: To produce a UK Marine Trophic Index (MTI), by identifying possible indices then selecting the most suitable out of these through a process of critical assessment and consultation with the wider scientific & conservation community. Once this is achieved a clear mechanism and costing for a programme of annual review will be established along with an evaluation of the selected MTI’s ability to provide an assessment of marine ecosystem integrity and detect change in UK waters with recommended thresholds. Up to three further indicators will be developed. Key Customer Purpose: The Marine trophic index (MTI) is listed for development in the EU/CBD focal area'ecosystem integrity and ecosystems goods and services' and the UK Biodiversity partnership standing committee has also agreed to develop and report on marine ecosystem integrity. The work will allow the UK to report against this headline indicator and will be published in 2008.
