Abstract
Long-term experiments have been carried out over the last 10 years to study the effect of applying sewage sludge, with different metal contents, on soil microorganisms and how they function within the soil. The experiments were carried out at nine sites across Britain and were designed to test the effects of individual metals (zinc, copper and cadmium) on soil microbial activity and long term soil fertility. This project will give an independent evaluation of the findings from Phases II and III of these experiments.
