Abstract
By bringing together documentation pertinent to the UK marine and coastal environment at a national and regional scale, the UK would demonstrate how to ensure the most efficient use of available documentation, thus being able to better identify information gaps and target future spending on marine monitoring and supporiting existing regional and global strategies and processes. The extension to this, an existing tool, would enable the UK to hold information in one location and contribute to national assessments, such as Charting Progress. It is the objectives of this proposal will be to (1) to further develop the existing GRAME Database to serve as a consolidation mechanism to bring together documentation of marine assessments, activities and reports at the national scale (in addition to the regional and global), thus creating a one-stop-shop, or archive for marine assessment and monitoring information (2)to strengthen the National level information held in the database (3) to develop the search function of the database to ensure maximum utility, (4) strengthen the online data entry facility and quality control to ensure that once information is entered, the database could be kept up to date with minimal resource requirements on a long term basis (5) create a visual global
