Abstract
Objectives Annex II of the Marine Thematic Strategy provides a broad overview of what the European Commission sees as the key elements of Good Environmental Status (GES) This project will provide a high-level, non-exhaustive list of elements that constitute GES, identify a package of generic qualitative descriptors for GES and provide an evaluation of the scope of the initial assessment Member States will be required to undertake. Key Customer Purpose The objective of this project is to provide Government with a better appreciation of what GES might look like in practice together with the implications for the assessment required in order to establish the current status of UK waters.
