Abstract
The CIRIA Guidance Project aims to provide authoritative guidance on appropriate development of brown filed sites, with emphasis on protecting biodiversity, recognising the Priority Habitat Open Habitat Mosaics on Previously Developed Land and recognising opportunities for creation of open green spaces in urban settings. It will be managed by CIRIA, with a contribution from Defra, and it will coincide with a Defra commissioned project to define and map Open Habitat Mosaics. The two projects will involve close collaboration to avoid contradictory messages and to provide appropriate guidance for developers that will coincide with the definition and mapping of the Priority Habitat.
