Abstract
Summary Objectives: The workshop hopes to 1) discuss what is Good Environmental Status (GES) for UK waters, 2) to provide opportunity to assess current reserach and monitoring many need to be adapted to meet requirements; by bringing together experts and policy makers. Key Customer Purpose: The Marine Strategy Framework Directive supports UK Government's vision of clean, healthy, safe, productive and biologically diverse seas, and recognises that since marine pollution and other impacts often transcend national boundaries, national action on the marine environment needs to be supported by a framework to ensure action is taken across the EU, with all Member States playing their part. This workshop is needed to help inform the UK’s implementation of the Directive. It will bring scientists and policymakers together to initiate the process of agreeing a clear UK determination of Good Environmental Status and developing associated environmental targets and indicators.
