Description
A joint network between NERC and the Technology Strategy Board, hosted by the Biosciences Knowledge Transfer Network. Significant knowledge gaps exist in understanding the potential of algal-based bioenergy. This programme funds an Algal Bioenergy Special Interest Group (AB-SIG), and specifically an AB-SIG director, two research fellows and a knowledge exchange fellow. The high-level science goal of the AB-SIG is to understand the opportunities and risks to the quality of freshwater and marine environments of using algal biomass as a source of renewable energy. The purpose of the AB-SIG Network is to rapidly scope the environmental science potential in the area of algal bioenergy, and to build the research networks and secure the key partnerships needed to facilitate this.
